Umar, known to Indian security agencies as Sanaul Haq, was killed in a joint strike by US and Afghan forces at a Taliban compound in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS) confirmed Tuesday.
In 2013, Umar delivered the first exhortations specifically targeting Muslims in India - the first of its kind in global jihadist writing. He invoked anti-Muslim communal violence in India, saying “the Red Fort in front of the mosque cries tears of blood at your slavery and mass killing at the hands of the Hindus”.
The US media on Wednesday, quoting unnamed officials, reported that Hamza bin Laden was killed during the first two years of the Trump administration. There has been no official confirmation of it from the United States.
In a video, ‘Don’t forget Kashmir’, posted on ‘As-Sahab’ channel, an in-house production of al Qaeda, Zawahiri has also called for greater coordination between militant groups in Kashmir and global terror outfits.
According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the encounter broke out at the Panzar area of Shopian in the morning after security forces launched a cordon and search operation following reports that militants were present in the area.
The outfit, which has now been banned, considers India and Indian interests as its targets and is engaged in activities of radicalising and recruiting Indian youth for terror activities, the home ministry order said.
