The conclave was divided into two parts. Firstly, there was a steering or subject committee meeting held in Delhi’s Constitution Club. Two resolutions, one political and one related to agriculture, were discussed to be presented in the plenary. The second part was the two-day open session.
The Congress has had very few contested elections in its entire history. Once Gandhiji became its leader, he nominated the candidate for party president and the All India Congress Committee duly voted for the sole candidate.
`The participants unanimously called upon the party's national vice president Rahul Gandhi to take command of the party at the national level,' said Ravinder Sharma, Congress' chief spokesperson in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ashok Choudhary had been accused of trying to split the party in favour of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar JD(U) after disintegration of Grand Alliance. He had, however, dismissed the allegation as "part of the conspiracy to show me the door".
