On September 1, the Supreme Court, in its final judgment on the AGR issue, said telcos could pay their AGR dues over the next 10 years and that they would have to pay 10 per cent of the dues by March 31, 2021.

These yearly instalments will have to be made by March 31 of every succeeding financial year and a compliance report by the companies as well as the DoT has to be filed by April 7 of that year, a three-judge bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra said.

Supreme Court AGR hearing: During the hearing, the bench observed that 15 or 20 years is not a reasonable time period and the companies should come forward with appropriate time frame.

A bench of justices Arun Mishra, S Abdul Nazeer and M R Shah was informed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that the DoT has filed an affidavit explaining the reason for raising the demand of AGR related dues against the PSUs.
