BJP minority cell member Sheikh Amir Ali was beaten up following a clash allegedly between workers of the ruling TMC and BJP on Sunday. Ali, an e-rickshaw driver, had succumbed to his injuries at Calcutta Medical College in Kolkata.
According to state BJP sources, the party is miffed with the developments and feels that taking leaders of TMC and other parties without background check into its fold had led to the embarrassing situation.
On Saturday, four teams of CID, including a forensic team, arrived at the house and worked for over five hours to lift fingerprints and other clues, besides reconstructing the crime scene. They went around the neighbourhood and took statements from local residents.
West Bengal BJP general secretary Subrata Chatterjee, tweeted, “Another BJP worker has had to sacrifice while protecting democracy in West Bengal. Debnath has been shot dead by Trinamool Congress (TMC) criminals.”
Observing that it was not an appropriate case for custodial interrogation, a division bench of the high court had said Rajiv Kumar, if arrested by CBI, would have to be released immediately on bail by an appropriate court on two sureties of Rs 50,000 each.
“I stay in Kolkata 365 days and rarely go out. But for government work sometimes I have to go to Delhi. Parliament, President and Prime Minister are in Delhi. It has been a long time since I visited Delhi,” the Chief Minister added.

Kolkata, Jan 06 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) Party leader Idris Ali on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of having links with terrorist in regard to the Pathankot terror attack. He questioned the recent visit of Prime Minister Modi to Pakistan, saying that there was something suspicious. He also stated that Communist Party of India (M) leader Gautam Deb would be strictly dealt with for making absurd remarks over Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the Saradha scam row.
