Born on May 25, 1977, he hails from a family deeply rooted in the film industry; he is the younger brother of actor Suriya and son of veteran actor Sivakumar. Initially assisting director Mani Ratnam, Karthi’s acting debut in Paruthiveeran (2007) garnered critical acclaim and the Filmfare Award for Best Actor - a strong launchpad for his career. Subsequent successes solidified his position as a leading star, with films like Paiyaa (2010), Naan Mahaan Alla (2010), Siruthai (2011), Madras (2014), and Kaithi (2019) showcasing his range. His recent performances in Ponniyin Selvan: I and II (2022, 2023) and Sardar (2022) further cemented his commercial viability. Beyond his acting career, Karthi actively participates in social welfare initiatives. He founded the "Makkal Nala Mandram," a social welfare club encouraging fan participation, and served as a brand ambassador to raise awareness for lysosomal storage diseases. His contributions to the Nadigar Sangam as treasurer (as of 2015) highlight his commitment to the industry's welfare. Karthi's filmography, punctuated by both critical and commercial successes, alongside his dedication to social causes, paint a portrait of a well-rounded and influential figure in Tamil cinema.
