The men's badminton team opened the country's medal account after narrowly losing to Malaysia 1- 2 in the semifinals to settle for a bronze. India went on to win two more bronze and two silvers on Day 1.
The government on Tuesday felicitated the athletes who earned a medal for the nation at the 18th edition of Asian Games in Indonesia. The gold medallist were rewarded with Rs 40 lakh, the silver and bronze winners took home Rs 20 and Rs 10 lakh each.
India opened their account on August 19 with the pair of Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar winning bronze in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event. The duo finished third with a total of 429.9 points behind Chinese Taipei’s 494.1.
