Prime Minister Narerndra Modi condemned Opposition parties for “creating an impasse and not allowing a debate on major reforms like demonetisation in Parliament”. He was speaking at the BJP Parliamentary Party where a resolution was adopted praising citizens for their support of the Union government’s demonetisation move. The resolution was moved by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and was seconded by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. PM Modi termed the behaviour of the Opposition parties as “undemocratic”, for not allowing a debate on the demonetisation issue even as he asserted that the “major reform” exercise had the support of the people. In his remarks, he said Parliament in the past decades has debated a number of government decisions, which had caused tensions and social conflict, but it was now deadlocked by rival parties over a “constructive decision” like demonetisation. Meanwhile both Houses of Parliament were adjourned following repeated disruptions over the issue of demonetisation.
