PM Modi Departs For Laos To Attend ASEAN Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday departed for Laos to attend the 14th ASEAN-India Summit and the 11th East Asia Summit. PM Narendra Modi will meet Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe in Laos capital city Vientiane on Wednesday.

In his message before departing for the meet, the Prime Minister said that ASEAN is a key partner for India’s Act East Policy, which is vital for the economic development of country’s North-eastern region.

PM Modi, in aFacebook post said, strategic partnership with ASEAN is important for safeguarding and promoting India’s security interests and countering traditional and non-traditional security challeges in the region.

“India wants to enhance physical and digital connectivity in the region, enhance people to people links and also strengthen institutional linkages and leverage the modern interconnected world for the mutual benefit of the people in the region,” he said.
