Maharashtra Drought: Implications Of Shifting IPL Matches Out Of Maharashtra

In view of the drought in Maharashtra, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed the BCCI to shift all Indian Premier League matches out of the state post April 30. (Fixtures | Squads)
After the court direction , 13 IPL matches scheduled to be held in Maharashtra after April 30 will have to be shifted to new venues. These include six matches in Pune (including two knockout games), four in Mumbai (including final at Wankhede) and three in Nagpur.
The court said that shifting of IPL matches to another state can be a beginning towards addressing drought situation in Maharashtra.
After the verdict, the petitioner Surendra Shrivastava said, “It’s a welcome move. I would have been happy if (state) government would have taken this decision. Would have been happy if IPL or BCCI would have come forward and cooperated on this decision.”
