Kashmir Unrest: Mehbooba Mufti lashes Out At Separatists

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday criticised the separatist leaders for provoking poor children to resort to violent protests, resulting to Kashmir Valley unrest without naming any of them. Launching a scathing attack on the separatists, she said: “God is witness that their own children study in Malaysia, Dubai, Banglore and Rajasthan. If a single child of these people has been injured in the protests, I am ready to quit politics.” The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering at a function in Srinagar. The Kashmir Valley has been on boil ever since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen leader Burhan Wani on July 8.

She appealed people to give her government some time. ” I would ask people to give us some time…to give my goverment some time to work and set the things in place. I would not work eyeing elections, but would work for the people. I would work adhering to Mufti sahabs decisions.”

She said she does not work to win elections. “I do not know if I would contest the upcoming elections. I even do not know if I will be alive. But the people whom I am striving against and taking tough actions are not common people. They are very powerfull.”
