Kashmir Attracts Lakhs Of Migratory Birds As Winter Approaches

More than 3 lakh guest birds from different parts of Europe and Central Asia have arrived in the wetlands of the Kashmir valley as winter has come. A large number of water-bodies have suffered drastically in Kashmir this year due to scarce rainfall. Hokersar Wetland Reserve, the only wetland with a satisfactory water-level to provide the natural habitat for these birds, will be home for these birds for next few months. The authorities have put in several efforts to increase the water level of Hokersar wetland and also restore the ecosystem, which was endangered by industrial dispose of in water bodies. The beauty of Kashmir valley is increased multifold with the myriad of these winged visitors.
