Hamid Ansari: India Signs 2 MoUs With Morocco

“We appreciate Morocco’s support for India’s candidature to expend it in United Nations. In our presence, discussions on five MoUs covering fields as diverse as water resources, television broadcasting, institutional cooperation and cultural and educational exchanges were also concluded between the two countries”, said Vice President Hamid Ansari who is leading a delegation to Morocco and Tunisia.

India today signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Morocco for improving bilateral relations in different areas including cultural exchange and institutional training for officers. After the MoUs were signed between the delegates of both the nations, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister of Morocco, Abdelilah Benkirane addressed the media.

While addressing the media after signing MoUs, Ansari said that India was very happy to receive the King of Morocco Mohammed VI, who had come to India last year for the Indo Africa summit. “We hold his majesty in high esteem and looking forward to call on the King later today”, Ansari said.
Secretary (Economic Relations), Amar Sinha, and India’s ambassador to Morocco, Dinesh K Patnaik while briefing the mediapersons said that two MoUs have been signed while the draft for the remaining three has been finalised.
Elaborating about the MoUs, Amar Sinha said, “Moroccan diplomats will come to India for one year while Indian foreign service officers shall also be visiting Morocco for the same period. We are not looking at short term cooperation as far as Institutional training of foreign service officers is concerned”.
Sinha and Patnaik also mentioned that a more needs to be done on the tourism front between the two nations. “The tourist inflow to Morocco from India has been increasing. Lately, we have recorded about 20,000 tourists. We have issued around 5000 visas to Morocco nationals for visiting India. But largely these had been businessmen or people visiting India for religious activities. That’s why we are going to launch a Chamber of Commerce and Industry with Morocco this evening so that it can act as a catalyst between the two nations”, Dinesk Patnaik said.———————————————————————————————
