Following Defence Minister statement that no surgical strikes were conducted in the past, Congress leader and former Defence Minister AK Antony slammed Manohar Parrikar for his remarks. According to reports, Antony said, “He called surgical strike a burden and frustration of last 30 years…somebody must control him. I strongly object to his statement.”
He also added that Parrikar insulted both the Army and the country with his statement. Rejecting Congress’ claims of conducting surgical strikes during UPA regime, Parrikar said that to the best of his knowledge no such strikes were carried out in the past and they were all covert operations. Parrikar’s statements have drawn wide criticism from opposition parties with Congress saying that he should seek pardon from the armed forces for “undermining” their sacrifices for the country.
