Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui was made to face with Shiv Sena’s far-right ire when he agreed to perform in his home town’s Ram Leela scheduled for Thursday. In Muzaffarnagar’s Budhana tehsil, the Shiv Sena district head Mukesh Sharma claims he had approached police to ask the committee to drop Nawazuddin from the show, after a message circulated on WhatsApp informed everyone of the actor’s inclusion. Though the Sena evoked tradition and claimed that no Muslims have been part of Ram Leela productions in the city for over 50 years, the cast out-rightly denied it saying that several Muslims have been part of the show. Siddiqui refused to comment on Shiv Sena’s objection to his performance.
