The Supreme Court modified its September 5 order directed Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu as opposed to 15,000 cusecs. The Karnataka government had, earlier, sought an urgent hearing over the Cauvery dispute which was rejected by the apex court.
Justice Dipak Mishra observed: “Citizens and executive of this country have to accept and obey orders of the Supreme Court unless it is modified. If the court passes an order, either comply or come for modification. People cannot take law into their hand.”
Karnataka and Tamil violent protests over the Cauvery water dispute. Hotels and vehicles with Karnataka registration plates in Tamil Nadu were attacked by petrol bombs, while, on Sunday, a Tamil engineering student was also thrashed in Bengaluru.
