The NSCN (IM) leadership has become old. Isaac Swu is in his 80s and possibly terminally ill. Muivah is in slightly better condition healthwise, but equally old. The NSCN does not have a second line leadership. The Naga people generally are tired of extortion. The details of the agreement, in typical Modi government style, have not been revealed. But I can tell you this much. The so-called minimum demand of the NSCN that for integration of the Naga dialects speaking areas of Manipur, am and Arunachal into the state of Nagaland has not been conceded because this is something to which Manipur, am and Arunachal will never agree. The Nagas have got nothing. Maybe in typical Modi government style, some money will be thrown at them. And maybe some of the youth men and women in the NSCN camps will be selectively inducted into the armed police of the Centre. For the Nagas, this has been a terrible climbdown. From a separate country demanded by Zapu Angami Phizo, to the last demand of an integrated unit of all Naga dialects speaking areas, including those in am, Arunachal and in Manipur by the NSCN, nothing remains. Interestingly, the responsibility for the w thing has been fixed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the British. In summary, he says the British are bad boys the Naga tribes are good guys. So be it.
