Arunachal Pradesh: Congress suffers a blow as 42 of its MLAs move to BJP-led alliance

It has barely been two months since the Supreme Court restored the Congress government to power in Arunachal Pradesh. The Congress on Friday lost its government when its entire Legislature Party (CLP), except former CM Nabam Tuki, joined the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) which will become a part of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance or NEDA.

The Congress had a strength of 44 ministers in the 60-member state assembly after the death of former CM Kaliko Pul. The strength of the PPA in the state assembly stands at 43 because Tuki has chosen to remain with the Congress party.
