Naseeruddin Shah : I Wanted To Be An Actor Because I Wanted To Be Famous

For over four decades, Naseeruddin Shah has set the bar in Hindi cinema. Shah, who made his debut in Nishaant in 1975, has been an integral part of the journey of the Indian film industry.

He and his actor-wife Ratna Pathak Shah have also been at the forefront of Indian theatre, directing and acting in several landmark plays for Motley, a Mumbai-based group that he co-founded. They, along with their children Heeba, Imaad and Vivaan.

Shah, a Padma Bhushan and winner of many National Film Awards, has delivered powerhouse performances in movies like Paar, Sparsh, Bazaar and, more recently, in A Wednesday and Ishqiya. His memoir, And Then One Day, published last year, was critically acclaimed for its no-holds-barred account and beautiful prose.

Pathak Shah is best known for her portrayal of Maya Sarabhai in the popular TV show Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and films like Mirch Masala, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na and recently her comic turn in Golmaal 3. In theatre, she has acted in landmark plays such as Ismat Apa Ke Naam, Dear Liar and Antigone.
