Baliyawi got 123 votes against 107 for opponent Ali. Verma got 122 votes against 108 for challenger Sharma. BJP supported Independents. Of the truncated Assembly strength of 232 MLAs (in place of 243), 230 voted.
However, others in the RJD camp suggested Lalu respond to Nitish’s overtures to serve “larger political interest”.
