Nalini, who is serving life-imprisonment for Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, was granted her 24-hour parole starting from Tuesday at 4 PM to 4 PM on Wednesday.
The convicts are V Sriharan alias Murugan, T Suthendraraja alias Santhan, A G Perarivalan alias Arivu, Jayakumar, Robert Payas, Ravichandran and Nalini.
The three convicts are lodged in a Vellore prison. Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991 at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
According to sources involved in the process, the unusually long delay could be an indication that the government feels the MDMA has completed its term.
The MDMA whose term lapsed on May 31, was tasked with probing the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
KP was on most-wanted list of Interpol and CBI after Rajiv Gandhi assassination, was arrested from a hotel in Kuala Lumpur in May 2009.
Nalini petitioned the SC challenging the law mandating Centre’s approval for her release and that of six other convicts.
DMK chief questioned the propriety of making such a comment, given that Tamil Nadu goes to polls on April 24.
