15 Congress workers arrested for ‘causing disruptions’
This comes just a day after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) called Captain’s tour a “flop show” and said that the rallies were banned because proper procedures were not followed.
While Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal have been terming the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a non-entity in the state, the duo launched a scathing attack on AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Monday.
The Chief Minister said both Congress and AAP were the “enemies” of the state, who have “joined hands to snatch” the water of Punjab by constructing Sutlej Yamuna link canal (SYL) thereby robbing it of its legitimate share of river water.
The CM covered eight villages per day during his visit and daily announced development work worth around Rs 4.5 crore.
Describing AAP as “band of fugitives and anti-Punjab elements”, Badal called upon Punjabis to beware of their (AAP’s) nefarious designs and narrow political vested interests.
A six-member Punjab government delegation, including two dairy farmers, will leave for Brazil for a ten-day tour to study how Indian indigenous cow breeds are being better managed there.
Badal asked the Congress to “stop politicking over the sensitive issue and unnecessarily criticising the SAD-BJP alliance”.
Centre must step in to check SAD-BJP cynicism and prevent a breakdown in Punjab-Haryana relations.
Badal’s aides say, he has decided in principle to take an extreme stance on the issue, even if it means going to jail for contempt of court or even stepping down as CM.
“Punjab DGP, chief secretary and home secretary as well as union home secretary will be personally responsible for any breach of the SYL canal in Punjab,” Khattar said.
“And even if it gets enacted someday, since it was not a Money Bill not even a penny could be withdrawn from the Consolidated Fund of Punjab in its pursuance”, Khattar added.
The announcement comes amid hearings in Supreme Court into presidential reference on legality of Punjab Termination of Agreements Act 2004.
“Punjab did not have even a single drop of water to give to anyone and any decision of injustice against Punjab on river waters would never be acceptable”.
