K S Eshwarappa was nominated by the BJP while the JD(S) nominated wealthy jeweller Sharavana as its candidate.
Four vacancies are set to come up from Karnataka in the RS in June and the elections to fill the vacancies are scheduled for June 16.

26 March was the last date to file nominations in Karnataka, which goes to polls on April 17.
“Kumaraswamy is under a lot of pressure from party workers in Chikaballapur to contest the polls”, said JD(S) chief.
I will file my nomination on March 24 and then go to people at the gram panchayat levels to know what I should do for them, said Geetha.
The Congress is yet to name its candidate for Shimoga and the name Kumar Bangarappa has been in circulation along with that of businessman Manjunath Bhandary.
However, contradictions amongst these parties on key legislations remain.
