Johannesburg, February 25: : South Africa and Australia will play without ‘Super-Subs’ in a five-match ODI series starting at Centurion on Sunday.
The decision was announced after a 20-overs international in Johannesburg on Friday following a meeting between match referee Chris Broad, South African captain Graeme Smith and Australian skipper Ricky Ponting.
The International Cricket Council announced last week that the system, allowing a 12th player to play a full role in a match as a substitute, will not be used after March 21.
But both Smith and Ponting felt that if the system was not going to be used in the future it should be scrapped immediately.
Broad said the Super-Sub trial was still part of the ICC playing conditions but that neither team would use a Super-Sub.
"Both teams have agreed to name a starting eleven and a super-sub; however Graeme and Ricky have agreed that the super-sub will not be used in a playing capacity," he said.
South Africa will be without swing bowler Charl Langeveldt for at least the first three matches because of a fractured left index finger suffered during fielding practice on Thursday. A replacement is expected to be named on Saturday.
