SHIV SENA: With 12 MPs in the Lok Sabha, the party has confirmed its support to the NDA. “The Shiv Sena’s stand on the nuclear deal is same as that taken by the NDA,” said party chief Uddhav Thackeray in a signed statement. The Sena had earlier backed the deal and lampooned the Communists as “red monkeys” for their opposition.
SHIROMANI AKALI DAL: With eight Lok Sabha members, the party has decided to support the NDA. “We are a permanent member of the NDA and we will go with their decision on the issue,” said party leader and Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal. He, however, added that the SAD would take a final view after a meeting next week.
PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC PARTY: Although it brought down the Ghulam Nabi Azad government in Jammu & Kashmir, the PDP said it would support the ruling UPA in the event of a trust vote in the Lok Sabha. “We are with the secular front (UPA). We will not do anything that will bring communal forces to the fore. We will vote for the UPA,” said PDP chief and Lok Sabha member Mehbooba Mufti.
