Bangalore, July 8: Despite the Janata Dal (Secular) and its three MPs gaining relevance following the exit of the Left from the UPA Government, JD(S) leader and former PM H D Deve Gowda has chosen to play his cards close to his chest.

Following the Left withdrawal on Tuesday, Gowda and his son H D Kumaraswamy sent out differing signals on the possibility of support to the UPA Government.

Gowda, who was recently advised by Left leaders against going with the Congress and supporting the nuclear deal — despite the blossoming closeness between the JD(S) and the Congress in Karnataka — said his party is not in a hurry to decide on supporting the UPA. His son Kumaraswamy, however, said the JD(S) would not hesitate to support a secular combination at the Centre.

“The test of strength in the Lok Sabha will take place only in August. One day before this floor test, my party will take its own decision,” Gowda said at his party office on Tuesday.
