Tiwary hopes his luck turns in Australia
Kolkata, July 7: Manoj Tiwary is all geared up for a fresh start after his stint at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) under Dav Whatmore, and the middle-order batsman strongly believes that his comeback mission starts with India A’s upcoming Australian tour.
Tiwary, who returned to Kolkata on Sunday after a month-long stint at the NCA, told The Indian Express: “I am quite confident of a good show in Australia. It will be a tough tour, as those who play for Australia A are on the verge of making the grade.” Tiwary failed to score in the only innings he got during India’s one-day tri-series triumph Down Under early this year.
“Injury put me a little bit on the backfoot last season. If I can perform well in Australia, I will be back in the reckoning. So, the comeback mission starts here. I just need a little bit of luck.”
Tiwary and the team are leaving for Australia on July 11. The first match starts on July 14.
The Bengal batsman also said that he enjoyed his stint at the NCA camp recently. “Actually, I did some fine-tuning of the basics under Dav Whatmore. It wasn’t very difficult having gone through this process under my coach Manabendra Ghosh. In fact, from Bangalore also I consulted with Sir every alternate day.”
Asked about Tiwary’s progress, Ghosh said, “He didn’t have a very good time in the IPL. Actually, he didn’t have the specific training needed for the Twenty20 format. Also, he was mentally disturbed. But now, he looks very fit, both mentally and physically following the stint at the NCA. I think he will be able to handle the pace and bounce of the Australian wickets.”
