NEW DELHI, MAY 17: A Punjab-based travel agent, who had allegedly sent four persons abroad with the help of suspended BJP MP Babubhai Katara and other co-accused, was arrested and remanded to four-day police custody by a city court.

Satwant alias Santu was arrested last night by the Crime Branch near Gargi College in South Delhi.

Additional Chief Metropolitan magistrate Kamini Lau today sent Satwant to police custody till May 21.

Hoshiarpur-based Satwant, who is physically challenged, admitted in court that he had sent four persons with Katara’s help last year. “I sent my brother abroad around four to five months back and a woman from Hoshiarpur seven to eight months back with the help of the MP,” Satwant said.

Satwant told the court that he was previously working with one Kuldeep, another suspect in the case, who introduced him to Katara’s secretary Rajinder Kumar Gampa and his sister Kiran Dhar.

The police said Satwant has to be taken to Punjab to identify Kuldeep and Joginder. The police also want to confiscate Santu’s mobile phone, “which may lead to other people involved in the scam”, Investigating Officer Arvind Kumar told the court.

Katara was arrested on April 18 while trying to take a woman, Paramjeet Kaur, and a 15-year-old boy Amarjeet abroad on the passports of his wife and son respectively.
