BHOPAL, JULY 23: Ram Mandir, Ram Sethu and now Ram Path, the BJP’s fixation with the Ramayana hero takes another turn. Bearing the brunt of the ruling party’s periodic forays into the past, archaeological department officials in Madhya Pradesh are busy tracing the route Ram took when he went into exile from Ayodhya.

Regional offices of the Archaeological Department across MP have been asked to collect details of the possible stops he made while passing through forests in the state. Once the data is compiled, the Government will reserve these spots and link them to form a Ram Path to mark out his journey as mentioned in the epic.

A letter from the Bhopal-based department of archaeology and museums has already been dispatched to regional offices along with a note from Minister of State for Home Nagendra Singh.

Archaeologist D K Mathur told The Indian Express on Monday that the regional offices have been told to send their reports at the earliest. “Once the regional offices send their opinion, the department will immediately revert to the Government,” he said. According to him, some spots already exist in the state but regional offices will have to delve into scriptures and other records to make the link complete in their areas.

The Government believes Chitrakut in Satna district has ample evidence that Ram passed through the state here. The Government has already set up a Tulsi Sangrahalaya (Ramvan) in Chitrakut. It believes that he passed through Mandla and Balaghat on his way to Ramtek, where he is supposed to have rested.
