NEW DELHI, JULY 16: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Monday submitted the chargesheet against former BJP MP Babubhai Katara and five co-accused arrested in connection with the human trafficking case busted in April this year.

The former parliamentarian has been charged with cheating, criminal conspiracy, violation of the Passport Act and for forgery in which he could face life imprisonment.

Along with Katara his five conspirators—personal assistant Rajender Gampa and the assistant’s sister Kiran Dhar, a Delhi-based cigarette kiosk owner Sunder Lal Yadav, Punjab-based travel agent Satwant alias Santu—have been charged with forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy. The chargesheet was submitted before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau. Katara was arrested while trying to take one Paramjeet Kaur and 14-year-old Amarjeet Singh on the passports of his wife and children. The court has fixed July 30 as the next date of hearing, where the defence will be given an opportunity to challenge the charges of the Crime Branch.
