Election Commission sources told The Indian Express that at least 21 petitions, against as many MPs, were not covered by the new Act. The Commission’s final opinion to the President is likely to be sent after an EC meeting on September 13.
Two UPA Ministers are among those still not cleared: Health Minister A Ramadoss for holding the post of President, AIIMS, and MoS Commerce Jairam Ramesh for being a member of the National Advisory Council.
Even the post of Chairman, West Bengal Minority Finance and Development Corporation held by CPM’s Md. Salim has not been exempted by the new Act. Salim said he was ready for an EC inquiry.
Other MPs still stuck include Santosh Gangwar who holds the post of Chairman, ICAR and Urban Cooperative Bank, Bareilly; AIADMK’s N Jothi who held the post of Official Counsel, Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu; Congress MP Naveen Jindal (for holding nine posts); Rajya Sabha MP Nirmala Deshpande (for holding the post of Chairperson, Rajghat Samadhi Samiti).
