Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), here to supervise the arrangements for the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state, said the commission has received a complaint forwarded by the President of India in this regard. Stating that the Commission received the complaint forwarded by the President only three days back, he said it “will take some time to probe the matter”. The complainant has demanded that both the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister be suspended from the Lok Sabha for holding offices of profit in the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.
Talking about the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Punjab and Manipur, the CEC said arrangements are already underway for them. “Election process in these four states have to be completed before March 17, 2007,” he added.
Only last week, the Parliament sent back the office of profit bill to President Abdul Kalam a second time. Congress president Sonia Gandhi is unlikely to take up NAC charge in spite of the bill clearance.
