Mohammad Anas, 23: Mohammad Anas is one of the most consistent performers in the men’s 400 metres category. He has been associated with the 400 metres events as well as the relay events for quite a long time now. The quartermiller etched his name in the Rio 2016 Olympics Indian contingent list after he shattered the men’s 400 metres national record at the Polish Athletics Championships at Bydgoszcz. However, qualifying for the Rio team wasn’t that easy. He clocked 45.40 seconds which was the exact Rio qualifying mark. He might have struggled a bit to get to the biggest International event, but in the process the 23-year-old shattered his own personal record of 45.44 seconds, which was also the National record. He thus became the 21st Indian to compete in the tracks and field event at the Olympics. Mohammad Anas comes from a humble background in Kerala and his performances at the National and International levels have grabbed quite a few eyeballs. He also clinched a silver medal in the Federation Cup National Athletics championships.
