Kidambi Srikanth, 23: Srikanth is one of India’s men shuttlers who would be bidding in Rio 2016 Olympics and this would be his first Olympics. The Gujarat born Srikanth Nammalwar Kidambi trains at the Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad. Kidambi’s father KVS Krishna is a landlord while mother Radha is a house wife. Srikanth also has an elder brother Nanda Gopal who is also a badminton player.
Kidambi has achieved the highest rankings of 3 in his career. He achieved the feat in 2015. He is supported by the GoSports Foundation, Bangalore and is also sponsored by Li-Ning. Srikanth emerged winner in the singles and doubles category at the All India Junior International Badminton Championship held in Pune in 2011.
Career highlights: Kidambi Srikanth is currently the highest ranked Indian men’s player on the international circuit with a world ranking of 12 as of May 5, 2016.
Records: Kidambi Srikanth finished runner up at the 2014 India Open Grand Prix Gold event in Lucknow and became the first Indian male shuttler to win gold at the 2015 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold.
Qualification: He registered a berth after BWF world rankings were released in May earlier this year.
