Deepika Kumari, 22 year old archer, comes from a village 15 km away from the capital city of Jharkhand- Ranchi. She started her professional archery training in the year 2006 when she joined an Archery Academy in Jamshedpur. After finishing eighth at the 2016 London Games, this will be her second visit in the Olympics. Padmi Shri award winner bagged two gold at the Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi. Participating at the first stage of the World Cup in Shanghai, Deepika equaled Ki Bo-Bae’s world record of (686/720) in the women’s recurve event.

Deepika is currently currently ranked World No. 5 and the country’s hopes are on her for their maiden Archery medal. She climbed to No. 1 ranking in the calendar year 2012 when she was competing in the World Cup individual stage in Turkey.

Career Highlights: Won a gold at the Archery World Cup in Colombia, followed by an individual gold at the 2012 World Cup individual stage in Turkey and two gold medals at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010.

Qualification: She qualified for Rio after she along with Bombayla Devi and Laxmi Rani Manjhi won a silver medal at the 2015 World Championships.

Record: Former No. 1 shot a world record-equalling 686/720 at the World Cup in Shanghai earlier this year.

Schedule: Women’s singles and team round is scheduled to take place on August 5 to August 12.
