Baljinder Singh, 29: Baljinder Singh comes from Dera Bassi, a town in Mohali District in Punjab, who took up athletics to eke a name for himself and his family. He earned an International spot after qualifying for London Olympics as well as Beijing World Championships. Baljinder will be looking to improve his record in the 20km walk event at his second Olympics. At London 2012 Olympics, he clocked 1 hour 25 minutes and 39 seconds.
Baljinder will join Gurmeet Singh and Irfan Kolothum Thodi in Rio for the upcoming summer games. Baljinder also won a Gold medal in the 2015 National Games in Kerala with a timing of 1:26:24. He has been associated with Junior National Athletics championships since 2005.
He could well become one of those small town heroes when he competes at Rio Olympics starting in August this year. He also became part of the National camp in Patiala but soon moved to Bangalore to train under Ramakrishnan Gandhi before his qualification.
Record- Bronze medal at the Asian 20km walk championship in Naomi, Japan, 2015 Qualified for Beijing World Championships in 2015. Gold Medal in National Games 2015.
