Earlier, BSP functionaries have been careful to put Misra’s name just after Mayawati’s, not just in the lists of star campaigners but also in the list of party’s office-bearers sent to the Election Commission from time to time.
Awadhpal Singh Yadav, BSP candidate from Aliganj seat of Etah district, has the maximum number of criminal cases against him. He has declared 36 criminal cases pending against him, including murder, robbery and rape.
Mayawati said her previous governments had “always ensured no injustice was done to people who were accused of serious criminal offences by their opponents because of their influence in their community”.
The BSP, which has fielded as many as 50 Muslim candidates in the first two phases, is facing increasing pressure to woo the minority community, with the Congress-SP alliance being perceived as the easier choice.
