Ind vs Eng, 1st Test, Rajkot: Indian bowlers were made to toil as England began their campaign on a promising note, riding on Joe Root's 11th ton to finish the opening day at a solid 311 for 4. Joe Root, England's leading batsman in recent years, made 124 off 180 balls, while Moeen Ali is one short of his fourth Test hundred when the stumps were drawn on day 1.

Cook and Haseed Hameed added 47 runs before the drinks were called, but the left-handed batsman fell to Ravindra Jadeja to the first ball after drinks. The 31-year old managed to add 31 runs before he was given out.

The 19-year old fell to R Ashwin after sharing a 47 run stand with Alastair Cook and 29 run partnership with Joe Root.
Ind vs Eng, 1st Test, Rajkot: R Ashwin, who leads the ICC All-Rounder rankings, managed to get rid of England opener Haseed Hameed. Later, he dismissed Ben Duckett (13) cheaply. Ashwin ended the day with 2 for 108 in 31 overs and was taken for runs mainly in his second-last spell of 10 overs.
