They are young, restless and all set to make their mark in Bollywood. Mohit Marwah, Vijender Singh, Kiara Advavi, Armaan Jain here are some of the fresh faces of 2014. It is a group of youngsters that includes star kids, established artists from regional films, television and from the world of sports.
Mohit Marwah: Anil and Boney Kapoor’s nephew, Mohit Marwah will be seen debuting in Akshay Kumar and Ashvini Yardi’s production venture Fugly, where he is cast opposite newbie Kiara Advani. The character named Dev, which ultimately went to Marwah, required someone with boyish charms and when Yardi met him, she knew that she had found the perfect boy for the character. The actor underwent a couple of extensive acting workshops to prepare for his role, which included body language, diction and speaking skills.
Vijendra Singh: From winning the Bronze medal at the Olympics to debuting on the silver screen, Vijendra Singh has definitely come a long way. Singh has been conferred upon several awards including the Padma Shri, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award and had also topped the International Boxing Association list in 2009. The 28 - year – old famous sportperson will be seen on celluloid this year essaying one of the lead roles alongside Mohit Marwah and Kiara Advani in Kabir Sadanand’s Fugly. Singh will be seen playing his real life profession, which is that of a boxer, in the film.
Kiara Advani: Akshay Kumar’s Grazing Goat Pictures has roped in Kiara Advani for Kabir Sadanand’s Fugly. Kiara Advani was supposed to make her debut with a Salman Khan production, but things didn’t work out and finally she was cast opposite Mohit Marwah in Fugly.
Arfi Lamba: Akshay Kumar's production house roped in this young boy who is also the co-owner of Bombay Berlin Film Production (BBFP), a film production and service company. Arfi will be seen in upcoming film 'Fugly' along with Mohit Marwah, Vijender Singh and Kiara Advani. Lamba received a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering in Punjab. Arfi also received his performing arts training from Shri Dinesh Thakur, Mahabano Modi Kotwal and Vinod Nahri of the Ank Theatre Group. During the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival, he was honored for being a part of the award winning film 'Slumdog Millionaire' along with Irrfan Khan and Anil Kapoor.
Armaan Jain: Armaan, son of Reema Jain (Rishi and Randhir Kapoor’s sister), will make his debut in a Saif Ali Khan production. The film, to be directed by Imtiaz Ali’s brother, Arif, will see south actor Deeksha Seth opposite the newbie. Armaan, in the past, has assisted Karan Johar on My Name Is Khan (2010), and was also an assistant director on Shakun Batra’s Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012) that starred cousin Kareena.
Sooraj Pancholi: Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab's son Sooraj Pancholi started off as an assistant director on films such as Guzaarish (2010) and Ek Tha Tiger (2012). Last year, he was in the news, in connection to Jiah Khan suicide case. However, the actor is now set to face the camera in the Salman Khan and Subhash Ghai-produced remake of Jackie Shroff-starrer, Hero (1983). The Nikhil Advani-directed film is set to go on floors in February.
Akshara Haasan: Kamal Haasan and Sarika's younger daughter Akshara Haasan, who studied music and filmmaking, will make her debut opposite Dhanush in R Balki film. While Dhanush and Akshara would star opposite one another, Amitabh Bachchan would play a stellar role in the film too. Before this, she has assisted Rahul Dholakia.
Harshvardhan Kapoor: Anil Kapoor's son Harshvardhan is all set to make his Bollywood debut in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Mirza Sahiba.The 21-year-old studied screenplay-writing and acting in the US. He has worked as an assistant to Anurag Kashyap on the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer 'Bombay Velvet' (unreleased). Veteran writer-lyricist Gulzar is working on the screenplay of 'Mirza Sahiba', a musical based on a Rajasthani folk tale.
Isabella Kaif: Bollywood beauty Katrina Kaif's sister Isabella Kaif is ready to follow her sister's footsteps. Before venturing into films, Isabella studied acting at the famous Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York. She will venture into films with an Indo-Canadian co-production, Dr Cabbie, that is co-produced by Salman Khan. The film also stars Kunal Nayyar of the Big Bang Theory fame.
Humaima Mallick: Another Pakistani model and female actor is all set to make her debut in Bollywood. Humaima Mallick has been paired with Emraan Hashmi in Kunal Deshmukh’s thriller titled Shaatir. The actress has done several television shows and films in Pakistan, including Shoiab Mansoor’s Bol, which went on to become the highest grossing Pakistani film of all time. Mallick went on to win several awards for her performance in the film, including London Asian Film Festival award for Best Actress.
Imran Abbas: Pakistani actor and model Imran Abbas is a known name in the film and television industries of his country. He studied architecture and later went on to play Nawab Sultan in the television show Umrao Jaan, which was aired on Geo TV. He also did a few telefilms and is best known for his portrayal of Hammad / Maddy in Khuda Aur Mohabbat. The actor will now be seen opposite Bipasha Basu in Vikram Bhatt’s Creature 3D.
Rakul Preet Singh: Delhi girl Rakul Preet Singh, who made her celluloid debut with the Kannada film titled Gilli, is a well known name down South. She has done several Tamil and Telugu films, including Tamil film Thadaiyara Thaakkawith Arun Vijay and Mamta Mohandas, where she also earned critical acclaim for her role. Singh was part of the Miss India pageant, where she won a couple of subtitles, including Miss Fresh . The actress is all set to make her Hindi film debut with Divya Khosla Kumar’s directorial debut Yaariyan, in which she will be seen playing one of the lead roles, which is that of a simple and studious college girl named Saloni.
