The election committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met on Wednesday in New Delhi to finalise names for Assembly elections in Gujarat but did not release any list. The three-hour-long meeting saw the party’s top brass in attendance, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief whip Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, his Deputy Nitin Patel and state BJP president Jitu Vaghani.
BJP’s chief opponent, Congress, has also not come out with its list for the state. The Congress also held meetings in New Delhi on Wednesday to decide upon candidates for the upcoming polls.
Polls in the state will be held in two phases: December 9 and 14.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has directed the BJP not to use the word ‘Pappu’ in campaigns run by the party, as it was being used as a reference to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. The BJP, however, tweaked the script of a promotional video by using the word ‘Yuvraj’ (prince) for the Congress scion.
