New York’s John F Kennedy Airport was evacuated on Sunday as reports of gunshots being fired surfaced at around 9:30pm. While the New York Police Department was yet to confirm anything on the gunshots, the Port Authority issued a statement saying the preliminary investigation showed no evidence of gun shots being fired.
They also added that no injuries have been reported and the evacuation was a part of cautionary measure. Police evacuated terminal 1 and terminal 8 of the airport along with closing a nearby expressway.
The statement posted by Port Authority on Twitter read: “Preliminary investigation does not indicate shots were fired at JFK. There are no injuries. At this time, no gunshells or other evidence of shots fired has been found. The terminal was evacuated out of an abundance of caution. Travellers should contact their carriers. There is substantial PAPD and NYPD presence at JFK and LGA. Investigation continues.”

Many travelers shared updates on Twitter posting live photos and videos from the airport. One of the users, Justin D.
