To make things easier for people across the world tuning into the United States presidential elections Tuesday, Google will ensure that the poll results are integrated directly into its searches in over 30 languages. Apart from the presidential race, detailed updates of the Senate, Congressional and Gubernatorial races will also be available on Google Search.
Shashi Thakur, vice president, engineering at Google Search said in a blog post that the company, over the last several months, has helped people with basic election facts like ‘how to vote’ and ‘how to find nearest polling booth.’ He said the company registered an increase in traffic of 233% for the search on ‘how to vote’ when compared to the elections in 2012.
Google’s chief product YouTube will also live-stream election results coverage of major news websites when voting formally closes at 7 pm ET Tuesday (5:30 am IST Wednesday), Thakur added. In September, YouTube had said that over 200,000 election videos were uploaded to the site every day since July conventions and that over 110 million hours were spent watching these videos. YouTube also got the #VoteIRL started which encouraged especially the young people to vote ‘in real life.’
