The bitterly contested US Presidential Elections 2016 has drawn to a close, with Donald Trump winning the Presidency with a stunning performance in key swing states. Trump has snapped up key battleground states such as Florida, Ohio and Iowa. Clinton trailed Trump for most of the rounds and fell far behind after he clinched Pennsylvania. She conceded defeat after calling Trump to congratulate him on his victory. The Democratic Party chair told her supporters that she wouldn’t be making a speech tonight. Trump is leading with 288 seats to Hillary’s 215. Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Maine are yet to be called.

To win the presidential election, a candidate needs 270 of the 538 electoral college votes. In terms of overall vote percentage, Trump has so far received 47.9 per cent of the votes counted so far as against 47.3 per cent gained by Clinton.
