Two police officers were shot as per local media reports at 3:15 am on Thursday in southwestern Pennsylvania. The coroner has said that one of two Pennsylvania police officers, shot while responding to a domestic situation, has died. Trooper Melinda Bondarenka told reporters that the officers were immediately met with gunfire when they arrived at the scene.
Washington County Coroner Tim Warco, however, didnt identify the Canonsburg officer who was slain because relatives are still being notified. Canonsburg Mayor Dave Rhome had spoken about the incident on a radio station and said that he did not know the condition of the officers.
While one of the officers was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, the other was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Canonsburg. Police are still searching for a suspect.
Residents have been told to stay inside their houses as police searched for the shooter after the attack in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, about 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Pittsburgh.
Authorities said schools would open two hours later than usual. Police officials were not immediately available for comment.
