India can produce up to 492 nuclear bombs: Pakistan think-tank

According to the authors, the study contains evidence that India has the largest and oldest unsafeguarded nuclear programme in the developing world and among the states not party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

India has sufficient material and the technical capacity to produce between 356 and 492 nuclear bombs, a research by a Pakistani think-tank has claimed. The study titled ‘Indian Unsafeguarded Nuclear Program’ published by the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) is co-authored by four nuclear scholars including Adeela Azam, Ahmed Khan, Mohammad Ali and Sameer Khan.

“A groundbreaking research study reveals that India already has sufficient material and technical capacity to make 356 to 492 nuclear bombs. This work is in contrast to several earlier studies which took a much modest view of the Indian nuclear bomb making potential,” the ISSI said in a statement.

It said that the purpose of the study was to provide an understanding of the true history, size, extent and capabilities of the different aspects of the complex Indian nuclear programme which New Delhi has kept outside the International Atomic Agency safeguards.

According to the authors, the study contains evidence that India has the largest and oldest unsafeguarded nuclear programme in the developing world and among the states not party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Former Chairman Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Ansar Pervez said the research breaks new ground by providing officials, researchers, scholars and students with new insight into India’s nuclear weapon making capacity.

He said in terms of detail, depth, analysis and the use of information from primary sources, the research is far superior to several studies on the Indian nuclear program and carefully blends social science perspective with technical details.

India's arms expansionist approach will only cause further instability and unrest and add to the misery of the already desperate people of South Asia. stan has no other option but to race with India in arms race to ensure its security and stability in case of Indian aggression. Already, the two neighbouring countries are engaged in daily skirmishes at LoC and Working Boundary causing death and destruction. stan approached the policy of dialogue and table since BJP umed power but to no avail. One cannot clap with one hand. Hence, the two sides are required sit on the table to discuss problems tantalizing them as there is no other option except talks.

The myth is just busted. India is now 3rd largest country regarding number of nukes it possess. The people will only sleep in peace India agree to dispose all its nuclear bombs. Announcement of "no first use" has no value as the government of any country can take U-turn any time.

Well quany of nukes is not relevent but it’s quality and degree of destruction which matters… India has high yield 500-700 kt thermo nuclear weapons, plus stanis are developing high yield 1000 kt thermo nuclear weapons which is 20 times more destructive than normal nuke weapons

stan has its own reasons to get worried about india's next moves. And as a country why do we have to unnecessarily raise eye-brows when we are least interested in war. However stan also must look at its provocative moves in the recent past. India-stan have had a difficult past. The new generation hopes that we will set our differences aside and take India and stan to new heights where there is no hatred and anger. Just Cooperation and love :-)

Listen guys. How about give up the nuclear program and build some much needed toilets instead. For each nuclear bomb you can build 10,000 toilets. That will be 10,000 * 500 bombs = 5 million toilets. ume 10 people use each toilet that is 50 million people with toilets. Ofcourse this leaves another 300-400 million people still without toilets but hey ... it's a start. Please do something about it. We are your neighbors .... have mercy on our noses.
