A prominent rights activist posted a video of a Donald Trump supporter abusing a black barista at a Starbucks outlet in Miami, when his coffee did not arrive on time. Demanding a refund, the man called the barista “trash” and “garbage”. He went on to say that she “lost” as Trump won the Presidential election. The barista replied saying “congratulations” and maintained her composure even as the man moved threateningly towards her. The Trump supporter also threatened to beat up another customer, when he came to her defence. He became aggressive when he was told to stop addressing the barista in that manner. The man, however, backed away when the other customer asked him he “wanted to take this outside”. Shaun King, a prominent voice in the Black Lives Matter movement, posted the video of the confrontation and asked his followers to make the man “famous”. The incident reportedly happened last Thursday.
There has been a spike in racist incidents in America after Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the Presidential election. Incidents of graffiti being sprayed on walls, asking immigrants to leave America have become a recurring sight. Blacks were also targeted, with racists spraying painting the n-word on a car and in classrooms.
