China would deploy its naval ships along with Pakistan Navy to safeguard the strategic Gwadar port and trade routes under the USD 46 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a navy official in Karachi has said, shedding light on a plan likely to alarm India. China and Pakistan are currently building the nearly 3,000-km-long economic corridor linking Pakistan’s Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea with Xinjiang to improve connectivity between the two countries. The move would open up a new and cheaper cargo route for transporting oil to China as well as export of Chinese goods to the Middle East and Africa.

Watch what else is making news:

A Pakistan Navy official said the role of maritime forces has increased since the country has made the Gwadar port operational and speeded up economic activities under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). “China would also deploy its naval ships in coordination with Pakistan Navy to safeguard the port and trade under the CPEC,” the unnamed official was quoted as saying by The Express Tribune.

In the past, China has shied away from saying that it plans to deploy its naval ships in Gwadar, a move which could raise alarm in the US and India. Experts feel that CPEC and the Gwadar port would enhance the military capabilities of both China and Pakistan, and make it possible for the Chinese Navy to easily access the Arabian Sea.

Having a naval base in Gwadar could allow Chinese vessels to use the port for repair and maintenance of their fleet in the Indian Ocean region. Such a foothold would be the first overseas location offering support to the Chinese navy for future missions. Pakistani defence officials are keen for the Chinese navy to build up its presence in the Indian Ocean and the Arabia sea, mainly to counterbalance India’s formidable naval force.

The Pakistani official also said that the Navy is considering buying super-fast ships from China and Turkey for its special squadron to be deployed at the Gwadar port for the security purpose. “A squadron may have four to six warships,” he said on the sidelines of the on-going defence exhibition, IDEAS 2016, at the Karachi Expo Centre.

The ships would be bought soon keeping in view their immediate need in the fleet, he said, adding that two defence ships have already been deployed at Gwadar. Another official of the naval force added that Pakistan has kicked off the process of establishing the largest shipyard of the region in Gwadar. A similar ship-building project is being deliberated at Port Qasim in Karachi.

The two advanced shipyards would design and develop ships and other security equipment for Pakistan Navy. “The existing shipyard, the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, lacks capacity to meet new requirements of the force. Its (PNSC) performance, however, would improve in competition with the two under consideration,” he said.

stan is suffering from nostalgia of colonial rule! lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;Wel done stan. Hope Chinese can tame you atlast and make you behave! It's easy to run into shark's mouth but it could be very difficult, if not impossible to get out alive. Hope you won't turn into another North Korea as China is not known for democratic rights even at home! lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;If the Chinese can make you forget terrorism, it will not be a bad idea after all!lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;Good luck for your "attempt" to find your ideny! Hope this time it will be genuine!

India should pat itself in the back! Now it should push stan into complete overreliance on China to an extent where the country will be forced to destroy its own competencies and replace them with Chinese competencies. In that way, in the long run, stani's capabilities will be diminished! lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;It is on a fast one-way route to being North Korea! This is exactly how the North Koreans began with their reliance on China - if you remember, they responded to American threat by opening up to China - and look at what their relationship with China has resulted in! China owns everything of value in North Korea while the country is finished in every sense of the word.lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;So, don't look at this dependence on China as being completely hostile. China is doing what Indians could not do to stan for so many years - eat all its value from the inside. Give it time, stan is headed to a very hollow future!lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;I think India should thank the Chinese. This will have serious long term unreversible consequences for the stanis! Go all out.

China's move and extensive deployment of naval and civilian forces presence at the Gwadar port is a further indication leading one to conclude its real intention and that is to encircle India from all sides. It is true that China has invested lot of money to develop Gwadar port to cut cost of its cargo movement from one corner to another, but that is not the only reason China got involved in that project. The real intention relates to its strategic military objective to bring its naval and military forces as closer as possible to the Indian territory. I am not sure how much stan will benefit from this project as far their economy is concerned, but the presence of Chinese forces in stan definitely provides a sigh of relief to stan in the event their is a military movement in the Indian army and naval forces towards stan. To counter this move of China, it has become more imperative for the Indian government to help the Balochs to fight for their rights and push the stani and Chinese forces out of Gwadar.

Why don't stan now ask China to guard is borders and it's streets too? That way, the Chinese will be even better masters than the stani generals and the prime minister can do something at least on his own. Which self respecting country will ever allow it's port to be "guarded" by another countries navy?

Gwadar port and the CPEC project is one of the most critical Chinese military project to become #1 world power by 2025. CPEC will enable China to occupy key oilfields in the Persian Gulf within 48 hours in case of a crisis and ship the crude via a secure land route to the factories on it's East coast rather than the extremely vulnerable route via Indian Ocean. While the primary targets are really oil fields in Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, as India sources a large chunk of crude from Persian Gulf countries, CPEC and Gwadar will threaten India's energy security in such a scenario.

stan has rendered herself as a de facto colony of China. Now is it necessary for us to be a colony of USA/Israel? Does it make sense to be American/Israeli slaves when our forefathers fought hard with their lives for freedom and democracy?
