A Pakistani official says gunmen have attacked a checkpoint in southwestern Baluchistan province, killing seven paramilitary soldiers.
Abdul Haleem says the attack took place early Monday in the mountainous Mekhtar region in Lorali district.
Lorali is 250 kilometers (155 miles) northeast of Quetta, the provincial capital.
Haleem says the checkpoint started taking fire after midnight, which continued for hours. The official said he did not know who was behind the attack.
The province is home to Baluch separatists as well as various al-Qaida linked militant groups.
