Well aware of corruption which could prevail in times of distress, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has sent his point man Sunil Singh Sajan, considered his ‘eyes and ears’ on the ground, to lead a team of 50 party volunteers for ensuring that the relief material from the state reaches the needy in Kathmandu.
Over 20 cars arrived on Wednesday morning at Kathmandu and camped in different parts of the capital. “We’ve come here upon instructions from the CM, who has asked us to ensure that the relief material sent from the state is properly distributed among the needy and to also assist the affected in whatever way we can,” said Sunil.
Members from SP’s all four youth wings – Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha, Lohia Vahini, Samajwadi Chatra Sabha and Mulayam Singh Youth Brigade – are here with the team. Sunil said that several trucks of relief material was sent to Nepal by the UP government soon after the quake struck and several others were on the way.
Sunil is a member of SP’s state committee headed by Akhilesh Yadav. “We had sent out request and people came on their own to volunteer,” he said.
