US President Barack Obama on Thursday rebuked a reporter from a major news outlet who asked a question about American citizens languishing in Iranian jails at a time when he led a successful negotiations with Iran on the nuclear deal.

“The notion that I am content as I celebrate with American citizens languishing in Iranian jails, Major, that’s nonsense, and you should know better,” Obama told Major Garrett, White House reporter for CBS News who asked the question.

Watch video:

“As you well know, there are four Americans in Iran, three held on trumped-up charges that, according to your administration, one whereabouts unknown,” said Garrett, a long time White House reporter.

“Can you tell the country, sir, why you are content, with all the fanfare around this deal, to leave the conscience of this nation, the strength of this nation, unaccounted for in relation to these four Americans?” he asked.

“Last week, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said under no circumstances should there be any relief for Iran in terms of ballistic missiles or conventional weapons. It is perceived that was a last-minute capitulation in these negotiations. Many in the Pentagon feel you’ve left the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff high out to dry. Could you comment?,” Garrett asked.

“I’ve got to give you credit, Major, for how you craft those questions,” Obama responded.

“I’ve met with the families of some of those folks. Nobody’s content. And our diplomats and our teams are working diligently to try to get them out,” he said.

“Now, if the question is why we did not tie the negotiations to their release, think about the logic that that creates. Suddenly, Iran realizes you know what? Maybe we can get additional concessions out of the Americans by holding these individuals. Makes it much more difficult for us to walk away if Iran somehow thinks that a nuclear deal is dependent in some fashion on the nuclear,” explained the President.

Thank you. It is sad that our media persons want the answer from the interviewee what the journalists want to hear and not what the people want to hear or what the interviewee want to say though they make adjustments to a select few such as Sonia G, Priyanka V etc. when they seem to be over awed by the aura of these people. Our media has to travel a long way to reach the American standards though I would admit that we had real l journalists in the 80s and 90s when I used to enjoy them. It seems every profession is now up for .

This is called democracy, where President calls periodic press conferences and have straight forward discussions on important issues facing the country. Here in India, Modi has not called even a single press conference during the last 14 months, since he took over as PM and even has stopped taking journalists or meeting press during or after his foreign tours.

Here is a man who (hopefully) looks for a peaceful world. Every nation on earth is filled with living organisms called humans. And every one of them, in some parts of their cerebral form is different and independent of the next human. And among the humans some, like the republicans of the USA are more skewed than normal humans. And if some one comes along and says let us be friends-you to your cerebrum and me to mine with all the bests and twists- then why heck not?. Give up a little, take a little. Give up a little and take a little, and that is exactly what this man called Barak Huusain Obama is doing and has been attempting to do all along. But then we are what we are. Paid by the special interests to do the utmost possible to put down or fight against maintaining a peaceful world. A peaceful world is a broken business model and we simply cannot have that. Most regretfully, in spite of some of the great values held by the GOP one thing that they cannot and have not been able to accept is to have a non white President among them. That streak among them, at least among most of them will not go away any time soon. For me, Barak Obama in spite of the goof ups is the MAN for the USA

With out calling any press conferences, press is misquoting many words of our PM and Ministers. First let the press start reporting the unbiased news. Then PM may call the press conference.

Why just compare Modi and Obama. Look at the back drops of Americans (people) and the Indian (people), democratic maturity, pressutes in USA and India. There is no point Modi to have a dialog with the kinds of Barkha Dutt, Goswami and Raj Sardeshai (known henchmen of Slonia Gaddhi). General VK Singh coined the most appropriate word for the Indian Journalists - Pressutes. Modi is a man of high, noble characters - he does not need to talk with these low lives.
