Vice President Joe Biden says Donald Trump’s hardline position on immigration “will not prevail.”
Biden, who is weighing a late entry into the Democratic presidential primary, spoke on Tuesday at a Hispanic Heritage Month event. He singled out Trump — the front-runner for the Republican nomination — by name.
Trump has called for removing the millions of people in the US illegally before allowing some to come back. His position has roiled a Republican field already grappling with its stance on immigration.
Biden called Trump’s message “sick” and said the real estate mogul is denigrating a whole group of people.
Biden made no comments about his presidential deliberations. As he closed his remarks, participants yelled “Run, Joe, Run” but the vice president brushed their cheers aside.
